A letter dated 25th November 1971 from the Director of Sotheby's Parke Bernet Gallery (London), P. D. Thomson to a Mr. Brookstone saying:
"Further to our recent conversation regarding the portrait of Robert Bankes, Earl of Liverpool, this is in my opinion definitely the work of George Romney and should you ever wish to sell it in London we should be pleased to include it in a sale catalogue as such."
