Royal Navy Rating WW1 Straw hat. HMS Ceres. A rare example of the pattern introduced in the late 19th and worn through the Great War. This hat is complete with an embroidered H.M.S. CEBRES cap tally (faded). The edge of the hat is bound with blue cotton tape; star design to centre of the crown. The interior with sweatband. The hat retains a good shape with some age and service wear. H.M.S. Cebres was a light Cruiser launched in 1917, She was transferred to the 3rd Light Cruiser Squadron in 1919 which was assigned to operate in the Mediterranean. During 1920 was operating in the Black Sea in support of operations against Communist forces.
