A FIRST WORLD WAR BATTLE OF ARTES GALLANTRY TRIO TO THE LANCASHIRE FUSILIERS. A Great War group of three comprising George V Distinguished Conduct Medal named to 56331 L. Cpl C.H. Gotts 2/Lan Fus. War Medal and Victory Medal similarly named. Lance Corporal Gotts D.C.M. was published in the Gazette on the 1st February 1919 'For conspicuous gallantry and good leadership during operations east of Verchain (Near Artres) on the 26th October 1918. When his platoon officer was wounded he assumed command. At one time when an enemy trench mortar was holding up the advance of the bridge-head platoon, he took two men and captured the trench mortar and team of six men. The Battalion history records the events in some detail, noting that it was their last action of the War some 15 miles from the scene of their first action. Mounted for display with copied research.
