A late Victorian travelling writing case by S. Mordan & Co, the lock engraved 'Mary Gray Allen', the fitted interior with inkwell and stationery compartments. Together with a leather satchel. Approx. 12 1/2" x 12", 2 5/8" high.

Mary Gray Allen was the partner of Clara Mordan (1844-1915), granddaughter of Sampson Mordan. Both ladies were WSPU (Suffragette Movement) campaigners and benefactors of St Hugh's College Oxford. The college library was named Mordan Hall after Clara, and on its completion in 1935 the new library included a wing named after Mary Gray Allen.
