SCOTLAND, THE ROYAL SCOTTISH ACADEMY OF PAINTING, SCULPTURE AND ARCHITECTURE, a heavy silver Member's medal presented to James Miller, architect, 1930, on his election as an Academician, the medal by Sir Joseph Noel Paton and Benjamin Wyon, kneeling figure of Mercury supporting lamp and Pegasus, reverse: laurel branch on tripod, named on edge, 68mm (BHM 1884), in red leather case of issue by Alexander Kirkwood & Son. A beautiful medal in mint state, extremely rare. James Miller, FRSE, FRIBA, FRIAS, RSA (1860-1947) after his apprenticeship, worked for the architect Hippolyte Blanc, whose RSA medal was in the collection of Michael Hall of New York, sold in London in May 2010. Miller is best remembered for railway work and a number of commercial buildings mostly in Scotland but including the BBC offices in Belfast.
