Meiji period (1868-1912), rectangular, with a lift-off cover, the cover decorated with two phoenixes flying amidst scrolling tendrils and within a further scrolling foliate and insect-decorated border, the lid mounted in silver and the base lined with silver, the iron box decorated to each side with motifs, unmarked. 9.5cm long
