C/R- one coffee can and one saucer with hips to the rim, one sucrier badly broken but cover intact, plates with very, very light scratching and very, very light rubbing to the gilt, most pieces supplied with original clear polythene wrapper
Footnote: supplied with a copy of a printed A4 letter relating to the history of the service, stating that it was purchased by Leonard Downes, the Butler to Sir John Harvey Jones, then Chairman of Imperial Chemical Industries, for the use at Smith Square, whilst entertaining the ‘President Elect’ of the USSR, Mikhail Gorbachev. The service was purchased by the current vendor in 1985 when Smith Square closed
