L1a1 slr bayonet and scabbard upgraded to l1a3 specification, with 8 in. clipped point blade fullered on each side, ricasso stamped ‘d58’ with broad arrow, grips stamped with broad arrows, plus one side with ‘l1a1’ 960 0011’, the ‘l1a1’ and ‘0011’ scored through and ‘l1a3’ and ‘0257’ stamped below, pommel with broad arrow, complete with its no5 mk1 scabbard. most ‘l1a1’ bayonets were converted in 1958 only a year after the original issue and had new grips fitted showing the ‘l1a3’ designation. a few retained their original ‘l1a1’ grips with ‘l1a3’ and ‘0257’ stamped below the obsolete marks. a rare variant.
