A DB 22 bore percussion holster pistol, by G. Heriot (Edinburgh), converted from flintlock of c 1785, 14” overall, 2 stage rifled barrels 8”, the breeches with fluted panels; stepped flat locks with safety bolts, signed with flourishes; walnut fullstock with nicely figured rounded butt, the domed butt cap and trigger guard of un-marked silver, the latter engraved with crest and motto and with acorn finial; the ramrod having WM tip and concealed worm. GWO & C (one hammer screw chipped, several chips to fore end, one trigger guard screw replaced). Stockel lists G. Heriot of Edinburgh working from 1765 to 1785. The crest and motto appear to belong to a branch of the Gordon family. Plate 7
