Victory Medal and Death Plaque for 2814 A.Cpl (later Sergt) George Jefferies 8th Bn East Surrey Regt. Killed In Action 1st July 1916 (1st Day Battle of the Somme). Born Thurleigh, Bedford. On the Thiepval Memorial. Collectors note with lot 'part of 'B' Company, Sgt George Jefferies was KIA in the action during the Battalions famous advance towards 'Breslav Trench' kicking Footballs which had been supplied by Capt W P Nevill.
