An interesting brass barrelled flintlock blunderbuss pistol, apparently assembled in the late 18th or early 19th century from the major parts of a late 17th century pistol by Ed. Nicholson and a late 18th century lock by R. Davis, 17” overall, large slightly swamped 3 stage barrel 9¾” with London and maker’s proofs, engraved “Ed. Nicholson Fecit”, and with acanthus leaves and scrolls at breech and muzzle; the flat stepped lock engraved with dog tooth borders and scrolls and signed “R. Davis”; plain walnut fullstock with brass mounts, comprising long spurred butt cap engraved with scrolls and snarling dogs’ heads, strawberry leaf engraved trigger guard (rear strap shortened), engraved wavy sideplate, baluster ramrod pipe, and with plain wooden ramrod with iron worm. GWO & clean condition. Accompanied by a copy of a magazine article by Bill Harriman. Plate 4
