Freedom/Independence: Rare linen Demonstration banner relating to the treatment of the people of Mwanse, Zambia by the British. The banner reads 'Tyranny in Mwense, To hell with Butterstoney we resent indiscriminate beatings, detentions and unwarranted house searches, Butterstoney Must Go.' 'Butterstoney' was C. Butler-Stoney Esq. a British officer and relates to civil unrest in Zambia/Northern Rhodesian in the 1950s. Also included in the lot is a photograph of Butler-Stoney and related printed ephemera.
