Of Daily Mail International Horse Show Jumping interest; a silver gilt presentation two handled trophy cup and cover, by Mappin & Webb, Sheffield 1937, with presentation inscription, verso applied Roman horse race panel, the pull off cover with naked horseman holding a wreath aloft (missing) upon a stallion, 1468gm, 40cm, raised on a mahogany plinth.
Inscribed "International Horse Show, Olympia London, 1938, Champion Cup, For jumping around the course by British Civilians, Presented by the, Daily Mail, Awarded to, Thomas Glencross."
Sold with the winners rosette and a scrapbook related to rider Miss Margorie Burgess and a photograph album.
Margorie was born in 1910 began riding on a Canadian mare bought in 1919 at a sale of ex Army horses used during WWI. She progressed well and first competed in 1927. In 1932 she joined Thomas Glencross's stables and began competing on his many horses. In 1938 she was entered for the International Horse Show and on Saturday the 18th June she won the Championship Cup. This entailed the eight men and two ladies wearing full hunting over a course of eight jumps. Riding Blue Sky she was the only competitor to have a clear round.
