WW1 Period Aviator's 3/4 Length Leather Flying Coat. A very good example of a Great War period aviators coat, made in light brown leather with blanket lining and leather buttons. Tailored double breasted with slanted waist pockets and easy access slanted chest pockets. Retaining original matching waist belt. The coat remains in very good condition, leather a good colour supple and clean. Near VGC.
It is interesting to note that to the interior of one of the pockets is the name J.C. SMITH **** NO5 CARTMEL. The RAF Roll of Officers 1918 shows a number of Officers by the name J.C. Smith and one Officer by the Cartmel, who had served with the RNAS and was Killed in April 1918.
