Boer War & WW1 Adams family medals with:
1. Father's 1899 QSA 3 clasps Cape Colony, OFS, Transvaal and 1902 KSA both clasps to 6361 Pte W. Adams Notts & Derby Regt, suspension re-attached on KSA, contact marks and minor bruising, good fine.
With soldiers’ pay book in leather cover, damaged marriage certificate, several photos including some as a Chelsea Pensioner, Royal Hospital Chelsea Christmas Card to ‘Albert Adams’ from ‘Dear Old Dad, Xmas, 1939’, together with copied research.
Walter Adams was born in Swindon, enlisted in 45th Foot 5/8/80, aged 18 with former service in 5th Middlesex Militia. He deserted 3/9/86 but claimed the Queen’s Pardon having confessed his desertion in August 1887. Served in South Africa 18/3/00 to 28/6/02, discharged 1907. Admitted to the Royal Hospital 5/3/35 and died in Derby 14/10/44.
2. Son's 1914 Star trio and bar to 10954 Sjt A.A. Adams Notts & Derby R. (L.Cpl 2/Notts & Derby R. on Star) heavily polished fair to good fine. With un-related Silver War Badge No 11609 issued to 6641 Sgt S. Turner Notts & Derby.
Albert Arthur Adams was born in Derby on 28/8/91, enlisted 16/9/08, landed France with the 2nd Bn 8/9/14, also served with 15th, 16th and 17th Bns. He was wounded 13/15 Sep 1918 at ‘Arrowhead Copse’, Guillemont. Received GOC 39th Div's Appreciation Card for "Gallantry, West of Peronne on March 26th 1918. This card has a short piece of Military Medal ribbon attached. Interestingly, there is an MM card for Adams which simply states "Personal Application" with no medal issued. It is assumed he applied on the strength of the MM ribbon attached to the card, thinking he was to be awarded the Military Medal.
After the war he served with the 2nd Battalion in India and was on the Razmak March of 1926. Promoted to Coy Q.M. Sgt Oct 1926, discharged 18/12/33 and died 16/4/64.
With an interesting archive of original military and civilian photographs, postcards, some inscribed, Notts & Derby embroidered Xmas Cards 39th Div Appreciation Card, Old Comrades Association Life Membership Card; letter re his 1935 application for employment as a Postman, Programme Card bearing signatures including that of Adams, Simple Prayer Book belonging to Annie Adams, Marksman’s Certificates (2) awarded to Sergeant W. Stretton, 1895-96 and 1896-97. With copied research etc. Ex-DNW June 2013. (½B)
