A FIRST WORLD WAR MEMORIAL PLAQUE TO THE ROYAL NAVY. A Memorial plaque named to William Frederick Moth. 283968 Chief Stoker Moth died on the 29th January 1918, he is buried at Lyness Royal Naval Cemetery in Orkney. He joined the Royal Navy in 1896 for 12 years at the age of 19. He was aboard H.M.S. Vivien in June 1918 when a premature depth charge explosion killed him and two others wounding a further sixteen. Commander Crabbe reported the incident 'I regret to report that when firing a type 'D' depth charge from the port Thornycroft Bomb Thrower, the depth charge exploded on striking the water'. Mounted for display with copied research and images of the headstone.
