HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
Beautiful Portrait of a Lady wearing a silk dress hair tied up in the empire style. A very fine work by the English artist William Hay.
The English painter William M. Hay 1820-1900 painted portraits, genre scenes and religious motifs.
His portraits, executed mainly in oil, features particularly depictions of women.
Between 1852 and 1881, he exhibited his works in London, including the prestigious Royal Academy.
