1955 British & Irish Lions in S Africa, Supporter's Scrapbook etc: This is a wonderfully comprehensive and personal history of the famous close 1955 Lions tour to S Africa, compiled by a Welsh supporter living there at the time. Substantial, well-used but all the more evocative, brown-paper bound, it contains a host of S African and British press comment, reports, previews and reviews, plus programmes, tickets, autographs and pictures from the lengthy trek. Also included is a very long, personal and 'of its time' handwritten letter (and a transcription) from the compiler to his wife and daughter back home, on the evening of the nail-biting 23-22 Lions win in the first test. Cliff Morgan, tour star, later saw the letter and commended the writer's rugby awareness - even though it was not wholly complimentary to the fly-half legend! As mentioned, it has been well used and there is inevitable marking from the tape and gum used in parts, but all is wholly legible and 'in one piece - and deserves to be cherished and preserved as one fan's caring & careful tribute to his heroes on a groundbreaking rugby adventure, 70 years ago. Must be seen!
