A Crimea Medal with 1 clasp, 'Sebastopol', regimental/depot style naming "Srjt William Tootill 56th Reg't" (heavily worn/scratched, elements of naming relatively faint) Sergeant William Tootill [regt no. 2173], The 56th (West Essex) Regiment of Foot. Tootill joined in April 1846 and served 21 years and 3 days, with over 12 of those years abroad in Gibraltar, Bermuda, Crimea, and the East Indies. His conduct is stated as 'very good'. He had received one good conduct badge prior to his promotion to Sergeant and 'would, had he not been promoted, have been now in possession of five good conduct badges'. Entitlement confirmed on medal rolls. Tootill was also entitled to the Turkish War Medal.
