A vintage Richard Joicey (b.1925 - d.1994) original portrait sketch of the renowned Irish actor Richard Harris. Signed Joicey bottom left and housed in a vintage silver toned frame.
Richard Joicey was born in 1925. Son of Lord Joicey, a wealthy Northumberland landowner and a famous variety star, Violet Lorainne, Richard Joicey was equally at home as a gentleman and a showman. He was educated at Harrow School, saw active service in the Royal Navy and the Royal Naval Reserve, then joined the Swan Hunter shipyard on Tyneside shipbuilding firm as a draughtsman, as well as designing and building his own boats. This was followed by a degree in shipbuilding at Durham University. He studied at the Sir John Casson School of Art in London from 1958, studying under Peter Gardner ATD, which started his artistic career. His first commission was from the Scottish and Newcastle Brewery, followed by work exhibited by The Royal Society of Marine Painters, The Royal Institution and The Royal Society of Portrait Painters. In due course, he was admitted as a full member of the RSMA.
