A 19th century Swiss rosewood, faux rosewood and marquetry rounded rectangular music box, 28cm cylinder playing eight airs on a one-piece comb, cranking handle, Start/Stop and Change/Repeat selectors, lithographed tune sheet, retailers Millikin & Lawley/168 The Strand, London, the hinged cover inlaid with a musical trophy and outlined with boxwood stringing, 53cm wide, c.1870 John Millikin (d. 1833) established the firm in 1815 and it was continued by his widow until 1854 when it was acquired by pawnbroker William Lawley who thereafter traded as Millikin and Lawley, selling anatomical specimens, medical domestic instruments.
