WW1 RAF Pilot Unique Memorial Plaque and RFC Portrait Photograph. Issued to commemorate FREDERICK MADEN who paid the ultimate sacrifice for his country. Accompanied by a portrait photograph of Captain Frederick Maden, this mounted with a fragment of aircraft canvas into a London 1907 Hallmarked silver frame decorated with a RFC silver device. The memorial plaque mounted onto a polished oak frame. Also a large quantity of detailed research (3 parts) Captain Frederick Maden volunteered for service with the Army Service Corps before being commission on the 9th May 1917 into the Royal Flying Corps. Posted to France he flew operationally with 9 Squadron and on the 26th August 1917 whilst on an Artillery Observation flight was attacked by enemy scouts his Observer was hit and suffered a broken leg. A later similar operation saw him once again attacked on the 20th September 1917 by enemy scouts. Maden escaped unscratched, his Observer wounded. Posted to Home Establishment on the 9th July 1918 he was flying in a RE8 aircraft of number 13 Training Squadron when it collided with another aircraft Captain Maden was killed the crew of the other aircraft survived.
