74th Regiment of Foot, salad or dessert plate by Davenport, the central reserve with a laurel wreath enclosing a crowned, gilt elephant above '74' and headed 'ASSAYE', diameter 8¾" (22cm). The 4th (Highland) Regiment of Foot fought at Assay, under the command of Major General Arthur Wellesley (who later became the Duke of Wellington), and suffered terrible losses under a hail of cannon fire.
