Badri Valian (American, b 1977) is a participatory interactive installation artist and painter based in San Francisco. Her work explores personal and social issues, with a particular focus on poverty, systemic racism, sexual harassment, dictatorships, and forced displacements. Having experienced prevalent censorship, gender discrimination, and inequality in her home country of Iran, Valian has redefined her artistic voice to amplify the voices of underserved minorities.
Valian's art installations are centered around public engagement and aim to foster new social connections. She believes in integrating different communities to create transformative experiences. With a background in Fine Arts from Iran, she has been recognized with multiple national awards for her innovative techniques and socially-oriented art projects.
Recently, Valian showcased her interactive art projects at various notable venues, including the Santa Fe Art Institute Artist In Residence Program in New Mexico, the University of California Berkeley, the Clarion Alley Mural Project in San Francisco, The Legion of Honor Museum in San Francisco and YBCA, Yerba Buena Center of the Arts. Valian is currently pursuing a dual degree of MFA and VCS at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco.
