Chinese lacquer brisé fans, Qing Dynasty, from the 19th century: the first, early 19th century, lacquered in black with hints of red showing, then decorated in gold, the guards and lower gorge in small scale design, the rounded tips with unusual animals and birds, the central scene, in subdued colours, showing six robed figured and two buildings amongst hills and trees, recto/verso, nineteen inner sticks, guard approx. 19cm; together with a later lacquered fan, strong gold decoration with a good amount of red, dragons across the gorge, guard and under the ribbon, figures and buildings across the centre, the rounded tips featuring robed figures, nineteen sticks and two guards, guard approx. 19.5cm
The first fan is missing most of the upper guard and part of one stick and lacks a ribbon. The second fan is in good order.
