1815 Waterloo Medal to John Watson 12th Reg Light Dragoons odd small edge bruise, good very fine. With copied service paper and roll, he was born in Benningham (Birmingham probably?), Warwickshire, enlisted 9/3/1800, discharged 10/6/16 as a consequence of a sabre cut to left hand and arm received at the Battle of Waterloo where he served in Captain Andrew's Troop.
The 12th Light Dragoons were heavily engaged at Waterloo against the French cavalry including when they attacked the French Lancers who were assaulting the British Heavy Brigade after its charge against the French Infantry. The Regiment lost 3 officers and 43 ORs killed, 2 officers and 53 ORs wounded and 28 horses killed and 82 horses wounded or missing. (See photo) (R)
