* The front loose blank bears manuscript Presentation Inscription to Bullitt dated Oct. 14, 1936 from Morton Fullerton (1865 - 1952), an American journalist on the staff of 'Le Figaro,' En Souvenir de nos exercises en semantiques pendant votre charmant accueil de tout a l'heure. Fullerton's note hints at but does not reveal the reason for his choice as a gift of this 1782 French classic, with its theme of sexual depravity and manipulation.
