1896 Campaign. 1896 (Nov 28) Stampless cover endorsed "no stamp available" from Lt. Gore Anley to his mother at Cook & Son, Cairo, redirected to the Ghezira Palace Hotel, with "WADI-HALFA / CAMP", "POST OFFICE / CAIRO / COOKS TOURIST SERVICE" (Dec 4) and Cairo datestamps, boxed "T", a 1pi postage due stamp applied. The enclosed letter of Nov 15th includes "None of our things which we left at Nosheh depot have turned up yet so we only have the very limited supply of kit which we had with us for the rapid advance to Dongola. We are in a very ragged condition, the men are literally in a state of rags. The men are picking up wonderfully well, they were dreadful wrecks when we crawled into this place".
