H.R.H. Mary, Princess Royal and Countess of Harewood (1897-1965, only daughter of King George V and Queen Mary) Letter to her son Gerald Lascelles dated May 9th 1939, including 'Daddy and I were very glad to go to Portsmouth on Saturday to see Uncle Bertie and Aunt Elizabeth off. We passed Brooklands in the train and saw several aeroplanes and on the return journey actually saw racing cars on the track!' and in the same letter 'On Sunday we went to church with Grannie [Queen Mary], Lilibet [Queen Elizabeth II] and Margaret at the Queen's chapel...'. Also a letter dated 1939 including 'Daddy and I lunched with Mr and Mrs Chamberlain yesterday at 10 Downing Street, they have made the house so nice'.
