WWII "ATLANTIC POCKETS": Superb postal history presentation on 16 display leaves covering the provisional issues of the 'Atlantic Pockets' i.e the areas surrounding Lorient, St. Nazaire & La Rochelle, occupied by German forces during the period between D-Day and final liberation in May 1945. The collection includes many rare items inc. the blue label inscribed "FESTUNG LA ROCHELLE" issued to the German military for use on personal mail from La Rochelle to Germany. Though showing damage, a very rarely seen label in any condition (Cat. 3,000 as umm). Also, a group of Petain & Mercury types optd. "Festung/Lorient", 3 unused (inc. inverted) and 2 on piece with military censor cancels. Collection continues with a range of St. Nazaire covers and labels inc. group of 4 philatelic covers associated with "La Centralisation du Livre" bookshop in La Baule, one cover with 'Taxe Percue' 4f.50 label and another pre-printed at same value. Later covers bear St. Nazaire vignettes produced by the local Chamber of Commerce inc. 2f value cancelled FDI (2 Apr. 1945) and 50c combined with 1f.50 Petain type also cancelled FDI. Other items inc. German Radio Message card, Liberation Day card, etc. Additional to the display are several post liberation covers and stamped and unstamped covers with 'Taxe Percue' marks sent March 1945.
