written in a clear hand on wove paper watermarked for 1815 and addressed Broke Hall, July 17 1820, to Viscount Sidmouth, recommending Lieutenant James Johns of the Royal Marines for service as a veteran and crewmate of his from the Shannon, where he states that Johns rendered himself of 'particular service of the capture of the Chesapeake..', single folded sheet, written entirely in Broke's own hand -- 9½ x 7½in.
