Mothers of Invention - autographed circular card from The Lost Coin (Catacomb Chapel), Greenwich Village, New York, signed by Frank Zappa the Mothers of Invention in 1967

*Acquired by the vendor in May 1967 at The Garrick Theatre, New York city at the time when the Mothers of Invention were playing a six month residency at the venue. The vendor recalls that, on the night he attended, the audience was no more than forty people with the band's dressing room being a large broom cupboard near the front of the stage with no door on it. He walked in and they all signed the placemat from a café that he had been at before the show

The Mothers of Invention played in New York in late 1966 and were offered a contract at The Garrick Theatre during Easter 1967. This proved a success and Herb Cohen extended the booking, which eventually lasted half a year. As a result, Zappa and his wife, along with the Mothers of Invention, moved to New York. Their shows became a combination of improvised acts showcasing individual talents of the band as well as tight performances of Zappa's music. Everything was directed by Zappa's famous hand signals. Guest performers and audience participation became a regular part of The Garrick Theatre shows
