A RARE ELIZABETHAN OAK THREE TIER BUFFET WITH QUADRUPLE GRIFFIN SUPPORTS, HOME COUNTIES, CIRCA 1570-1590. The mitre moulded plank top above a nulled and acanthus carved frieze drawer lined in beech, with matching side rails seated on a pair of winged Griffins, outfacing from the corners and loose dowelled into mitre moulded centre boards, with further deep nulled and acanthus carved drawer lined in beech, having matching end friezes, above two larger Griffins both with outstretched scale and cusped wings, gaping mouths and scaled feathered bodies, sat on the original base with vertical lozenge appliques and heavily moulded framework, 123cm high, 112cm wide and 43cm deep. Note - From a notable workshop in the Kent-Sussex region, specialising in Buffets and Canted cupboards made from imported Baltic Oak. All with characteristic raised straight nulled friezes, vertical acanthus work and Griffin, Lion or cup and cover bulbous supports.
