A 3.8 Jaguar Mk2 which was re-imported from South Africa, and has just been recently re-trimmed.

The Mk 2 Jaguar, introduced in 1959, was a fast and capable saloon. It came with a 2.4, 3.4 or 3.8 litre XK engine. The 3.8 is similar to that used in the 3.8 E-Type but with one less SU carburettor. The 3.4 Litre and 3.8 Litre cars were fitted with twin SU HD6 carburettors and the 2.4 Litre with twin Solex carburettors. Compared to the Mark 1, the appearance of the car was transformed by an increase of 18% in cabin glass area. The car was re-engineered above the waistline, slender front pillars allowed a wider windscreen and the rear window almost wrapped around to the enlarged side windows. The radiator grille was amended and larger side, tail and fog lamps repositioned. Inside a new heating system was fitted with ducted air to the rear compartment. There was an improved instrument layout that became standard for all Jaguar cars until the XJ series II. From its introduction the Jaguar MkII developed a strong following in many walks of life. With wonderful styling and a race-bred engine and four-wheel disc brakes, the ability to carry five passengers at great speed, the car proved to be a great success.

The vendor has owned this car since January 2000, which he purchased from The E Type Centre in Birmingham. The car was owned by unknown owners in South Africa from September 1965 until June 1990, when it was exported to Britain. There were 3 previous owners in Britain before him.

The general condition of the car is described as very good, showing a recorded mileage of 86,000, which the vendor believes to be correct. The engine was overhauled completely in 2000, and the overdrive re-newed in April 2008. The nearside sills were repaired in December 2010. There are other small modifications such as rear suspension polybushes, and the de Verde hydrogen system to improve fuel economy which can easily be removed if desired. The original red ambla upholstery has recently (2017) been replaced with grey leather, which seems much more suitable. The car is said to have proved generally reliable in use, even on the occasional really long journey. A 3.8 Mk 2 Jaguar, finshed in rare Cornish Grey, with the desirable all-synchromesh gearbox, in good condition with a very realistic reserve.
