WW2 Japanese Army officer's Shin-Gunto and scabbard, bright golden finish to tsuba, seppa, fuchi, pommel and scabbard fittings, handle has slipped slightly on tang causing peg to jam and fittings around tsuba to be loose, and some damage to rayskin close to peg hole, brown metal scabbard, blade is in good condition without knicks, generally nearly very fine.
The sword is being offered on behalf of the grandson of William George Shaw, a Commissioner of Excise in Burma. The sword was ‘retrieved’ from a Japanese Army Officer by his uncle, George Watson Shaw (b.1919 - decd.) Their grandfather was Sir George Watson Shaw, Judicial Commissioner N. Burma 1905, Lt Governor of Burma 1913. The family came back to the UK following the end of WWII.
