AN 1897 PATTERN INFANTRY OFFICERS SWORD AND RELATED ITEMS. An 1897 Pattern sword with an 82cm tapering pointed blade with George V cypher and etched decoration, the blade marked for Rob Mole and Sons, Birmingham, maker to the War and India Offices. Marked M904 to the back of the blade, the full guard with pierced scrolling decoration and George V cypher, with wire bound shagreen grip and domed pommel. In leather covered service scabbard with frog and hangers. 102cm overall. This sword belonged to Noel Hubert Fortt from Bath who served with the 2/4th Somerset Light Infantry as a Second Lieutenant attached to the Royal Sussex Regiment. Rising to the rank of Lieutenant he was injured whilst serving in India and eligible for a Silver War Badge. During the Second World War he served with the Home Guard. With a photograph of Fortt in Home Guard uniform, Somerset Light Infantry wall plaques, button and blazer badge *Condition: Slight degradation to small areas of blade, scuffing to scabbard.
