A rare and fine mid-16th century pewter dish, English, circa 1550

The plain rim with triangular beaded edge to the underside, and stamped to the front with a 'rowel and spur' mark, flanked by the blackletters ‘W’ and ‘M’ (?), gentle booge and prominent boss, traces of nature’s gilding, diameter 25.9cm

Provenance:  Former R.F. Michaelis Collection. Sold Sotheby’s, London, 12 November 1973, Lot 110 (£200), and bought by Peter Hornsby
