Group Captain Charles Herbert Tighe, OBE,DFC. WWII Medal group of six: OBE, DFC, GRVI General Service with Palestine clasp, 1939-45 Star, Defence Medal and 1939-45 War Medal, together with three pilot's log books, two running from 1927 to 1934 covering service with No. 2 Squadron Shanghai to 13th (AC) Squadron Odinham, the third dated April 1941 to October 1944. Together with a collection of related documents and ephemera relating to his service, including a Tatler cartoon where he was called Tight Leuitenant Fly. *Notes- Charles Tighe had a distinguished career serving the RAF. While serving with the BEF in France,1940 he was mentioned in dispatches and later, as Squadron Leader, was transferred to Ismailia, Egypt, patrolling the region of the Sinai peninsula to Haifa in northern Palestine. Undertaking observations of military activity and engaging hostile forces, he was decorated with the DFC and awarded an OBE. He was later posted to Canada to train RACF pilots and was offered a permanent commission as Air Commodore but declined to resign as Group Captain. *Provenance By direct family descent.
