A selection of fixed fans or face screen, 20th century, relating mainly to foreign places: a commemorative fan with image, of the visit of Pope John Paul II to the USA, September 10 – 19 1987; together with a souvenir of Venice, with a gondola passing under the bridge of Sighs; fan issued in tandem with the 4th Asian Congress on oral and Maxillofacial Surgery June 6 – 10 2000 in Cheju island, Korea; a shaped example painted with a reclining Japanese lady; a native island plaited straw fan with handle designed to allow the screen to rotate; a fan advertising the island of Cyprus showing the goddess Athena; another showing Athena in warlike helmet, advertising Greece, the Parthenon printed on the verso; a Chinese screen printed with a poem by Li Pai; and a more modern printed fan created for the Glasgow School of Art fan design competition sponsored by the Fan Circle International in 2002 (9)
