John Masson, This is Craig a local skinhead from Glasgow, Artists Proof, This shoot was shot mostly in Glasgow carpark, taken on the top floor outside. This image has a special place in my heart as two weeks after Craig tried to take his own life by jumping off a roof, he did survive the fall but lost a leg in the process. This image for me now shows me what he was feeling at the time of the shoot. The image was printed on lustre paper and framed in a modest frame to keep in the theme of work-class subculture and traditional values, framed, 32.5cm x 42.5cm overall

'My name is John Masson, and my journey in photography commenced in 2012, driven by a profound passion that quickly developed into a fervent pursuit. I enrolled in a 12-week introductory night course, where I acquired a solid foundation in camera work. Photography has consistently represented not only a dream but also an aspiration I am determined to convert into a successful career. Although financial challenges resulted in a pause in pursuing this dream, my commitment to the art remained steadfast.
In 2019, I faced considerable personal challenges, including a period of deep depression that prompted me to reassess my priorities. However, with the unwavering support of my wife, I sought the necessary assistance and embarked on a transformative journey toward recovery. This year proved pivotal as I made the significant decision to leave my position in the ambulance service to pursue my true calling. I subsequently enrolled in an HNC program in Professional Photography, which served to rekindle my passion and dedication.
My efforts culminated in 2021 when I graduated with an HNC/HND in Professional Photography. Following a period of reflection and rejuvenation, I returned to my studies in 2022 at Edinburgh College, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. Shortly thereafter, I achieved a notable milestone by graduating with a first-class honours degree in Professional Photography. Each photograph I capture now conveys a compelling narrative, and I am eager to share my artistic vision with a broader audience.
My journey serves as a testament to resilience and the unwavering pursuit of one’s passions, despite encountering obstacles. In 2023, I took a decisive step by participating in the MPA Master Photographer Awards, where I was honoured to receive two awards of excellence for my work—an affirmation of my dedication to the craft. Later that year, I forged a partnership with two accomplished photographers to establish our studio. While managing this new venture alongside my academic commitments has been demanding, my enduring passion for photography renders each experience rewarding. For me, photography transcends the mere act of capturing moments; it has proven to be a profound source of fulfilment.'
