A good double barrelled 16 bore percussion sporting gun by Samuel & Charles Smith, number 4712, for their patent "Imperial Caps", 44½" overall, damascus barrels 29" with nipples to take "Imperial Caps", the breech engraved "Smith's Patent" within a silver rectangle, the top rib engraved "Saml. & C. Smith, Princes Street, Leicester Square, London", with London proofs and serial number on the underside, the locks finely engraved with scrolls and game birds, signed "Saml. & C. Smith, Princes St, London", and with detachable hammer noses, with nicely figured walnut stock having engraved steel mounts, the trigger guard with scrolls and game birds, the butt plate tang with serial number, and with silver escutcheon engraved with rampant lion crest, with its original brass tipped wooden ramrod. GWO & C, the trigger guard retaining hints of original blued finish; in a slightly adapted canvas covered green baize lined case with trade label of "Army & Navy Co-Operative Society Ltd Gun Department". £600-700
