Great Britain: Pneumatic Despatch Company Ltd., £10 share, 1860, #467, attractive black printing, red overprint first issue. This was an attempt to move mail for the Post Office underground by means of a tunnel railway. The tube was just large enough for a man to be carried and was first used to move mail from the sorting office at Eversholt street to Euston Station. The network was extended down to Holborn in 1863 and in fact the line can still be seen under the Spink offices which used to be a main Post Office. Several trials of the system were used but the Post Office declined to put the system into full operation and the company was liquidated in 1875. AEF.
