Reliant Scimitar SE4 GT 1966 straight six coupe LGY587D, offered for sale.

Not so much a Barn Find as a Shed Find. LGY was rescued earlier this year from an old gentlemans rear garden along with 5 other cars. It had been off the road for some time and had suffered from being stored in less than ideal conditions.

However, as it was apparent that LGY had been an owner’s pride and joy for a long time and that they had obviously enjoyed driving it a lot whilst making numerous sensible improvements.

It was therefore decided to recommission LGY using a company with SE4 straight six experience. The chassis was found to be in very good condition and was refinished. Suspension and brakes were overhauled as necessary with new calipers etc. Serviced and with new plugs and leads and a cleaned fuel system LGY was back on the road and drove well in all four gears with a working overdrive on 3rd and top.

The interior of the car is striking with lovely instrumentation and the boot with tool tray, tool roll, jack and handle is also very presentable as is the under bonnet area. The body is remarkably good with no cracks or structural defects in the normal areas. However, the paint has suffered in storage and ideally will need refinishing at some point.

LGY really needs to now to be used regularly again and no doubt will need some TLC, fettling and fine tuning. The reward will be a car that easily out performs it’s contemporaries, looks good and sounds even better.

SE4 Straight Sixes were made in small numbers and were the first ever Scimitars. They are extremely rare cars now with just a handful on the road and as a very early wooden door handle example this car’s importance should not be underestimated. LGY 587D is recorded on the RSSOC register.
