A Georgian powder horn heavily decorated with scrimshaw carving, including "Le Pompey 74 Gathercole 63 Regt 17 December" with images of: a ship of the line, various other figures and foliate designs etc. GC (large end has some edge damage and is missing closures). Note: the Light Company of the 63rd Regiment were present aboard HMS Pompee when it sailed to the West Indies to engage French vessels. Sadly, once there, the Regiment suffered a high mortality rate through Yellow Fever. "Gathercole" may refer to James Gathercole who served with the 63rd Regiment until discharged aged 42. £300-350
