A JAPANESE LACQUER PORTABLE SMOKING SET (TABAKO-BON)
MEIJI PERIOD (1868-1912)
decorated overall in gold, silver and red with buildings in a continuous mountain landscape scene applied with metal carrying-handle with flowerhead hinges, the tops inset with an ash container with pierced cover densely carved and engraved with leafy tendrils and conforming tobacco caddy
22cm wide, 19.5cm high

PROVENANCE: From a Private Somerset Collection.

More Information

Generally of good overall appearance. However there are some losses to the lacquer in places, most notable is around the lower corner edges, particularly the back corners. There are some scratches and wear, again most notably to the underside. Old marks and wear commensurate with age and use.
