Bristol Zoo Project - Keziah Burt (British Artist, b.1981) - 'Jock' - unique opportunity to own a specially created bronze sculpture of Bristol Zoo's very own Jock, the Silver Back Gorilla, which can be finished to your own specifications. From Bristol Zoo Society: Keziah Burt is a renowned British Figurative Sculptor whose work has garnered significant acclaim, with sitters including Alan Titchmarsh and actor Adam Pearson. Keziah was also commissioned to Sculpt a Bronze portrait bust of the Young Queen Elizabeth for the National Army Museum in London, for the platinum Jubilee. Keziah’s portrait bust of King Charles III was featured in the Royal Garden of Remembrance at the Chelsea Flower show just last year. We are thrilled to announce that Keziah has turned her talents to creating a beautiful portrait bust of our very own Silver Back Gorilla Jock. She has spent several days with Jock and the gorilla troop at the enclosure in Bristol. Observing and learning about their characteristics and enjoying Jock being a wonderfully cooperative model. “He really is a spectacular Gorilla, such a wise old face. He seemed to really know what I was doing; the whole troupe came to watch me at work. Laying on the glass ceiling above me, taking turns to get a good look. They are incredibly intelligent animals. It has been an honour to be allowed to spend this amount of time with them all.” Jock is now the oldest living Silver Back Gorilla in the UK and for so many holds a particularly special place in our hearts.
