After John Hoskins, the Trusty Servant, oil on board, circa 1930; with the College coat of arms and the motto MANNERS MAKYTH MAN upper left; the explanatory verse below; set into an ebonised moulding frame with hinges to the reverse; 103cm high, 49cm wide; PROVENANCE: Removed from the Gentlemen's Smoking Room of the RMMV Winchester Castle, where the panel appears to have served as a cupboard door. The Winchester Castle was built in 1930 in the yard of the great Harland & Wolff. Refitted in 1938, she was requisitioned by the Royal Navy who held her until 1949 when she was returned to civilian service. She was broken up in 1960.
