A RARE GEORGE II/GEORGE III YEW DEMI-LUNE FOLDING BOX-TOP TABLE, ENGLISH, CIRCA 1730-1750. The figured and burr yew folding top, opening to be a tea type table supported on a knuckle jointed cabriole leg, the second top further hinged and opening to reveal an elm lined box compartment with original wooden cased lock, butterfly hinges and owner initials H M. The moulded curved frieze with original engraved escutcheon above three further cabriole legs and original brackets on pad feet, 71cm high 83.5cm deep 87.5cm wide Note - Demi Lune tea tables of this period are more commonplace in Mahogany and Walnut, being in Yew makes it much rarer, also being a locking box compartment table being more unusual Provenance - Purchased from James Brett, Arthur Brett and Sons, Norwich, mid 1980s.
