A ropework bound single draw telescope: engraved 'N M Hearle' to one end of main tube. 46cm closed length. *Notes- Lieutenant Commander Nathaniel Martin Hearle was killed in a mid air collision while flying a Fairey Firefly Mk 1, PP589, from HMS Theseus in Port Phillip Bay, Melbourne, on 20/7/1947, aged 32. Lieutenant Hearle was a Fleet Air Arm Pilot who was captured after an emergency landing in the sea while flying a Swordship on 22/8/1940 off Holland. His observer was Sub Lieutenant Rupert L G Davies, the actor later known for his role as Maigret in the 1960's. They remained POW's until liberation in 1945.
