AN 18TH CENTURY MEISSEN PORCELAIN BEAKER painted with typical scenes of figures in landscapes, within shaped cartouches. 7 cm x 7 cm. Note: The origins of Meissen porcelain lie with Ehrenfried Walther von Tschirnhaus, who, in 1708, began producing fine porcelain wares. Von Tschirnhaus' work presented an astonishing novelty, because he created the first European hard-paste porcelain. Previously, European porcelain had only been made in soft-paste.
